Not Just Ken: The Films of Ryan Gosling

“Because I was just Ken, and now I’m just Ryan” sang Ryan Gosling on SNL this past weekend, to the tune of the great Taylor Swift anthem ‘All Too Well’, as though he was perfectly promoting our season to come (he was actually promoting The Fall Guy).

To celebrate his work in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, and his deeply varied career, our new season entitled 'Not Just Ken: The Films of Ryan Gosling', provides an entire month of non-stop Gosling classics. From indie thrillers, to romantic dramas, sci-fi epics, comedy capers, and magical musicals, this season has it all.

The season launches from Thursday 2 May, with The Fall Guy, where Gosling stars as Colt Seavers, a battle-scarred stuntman who is drafted back into service when the star of a mega-budget studio movie goes missing. In Nicolas Winding Refn’s iconic thriller Drive, The Driver (Gosling) is a stunt driver by day, who moonlights as a getaway driver-for-hire in the criminal underworld by night.

Forming a perfect double bill of emotionally devastating and totally hilarious from Friday 10 May is: Blue Valentine, which centres on a contemporary married couple (Gosling and Michelle Williams), charting their evolution over a span of years by cross-cutting between time periods, and The Nice Guys, which unites Gosling and Russell Crowe as unlikely investigative partners in 1970s LA after a young woman goes missing, in Shane Black’s hilarious action comedy.

From Friday 17th May, a poor and passionate young man (Gosling) falls in love with a rich young woman (Rachel McAdams) in The Notebook. Meanwhile, in upstate New York, two men (Gosling, Bradley Cooper), and later, their sons (Dane DeHaan, Emory Cohen) must deal with the unforeseen consequences of their actions, in thriller The Place Beyond the Pines.

Blade Runner 2049 screens from Friday 24 May, and is set 30 years after the iconic first film, blade runner K’s (Gosling) important discovery leads him to search for Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), who’s been missing for decades.

Here’s to the ones who dream…Damien Chazelle’s magical, multi-Oscar-winning masterpiece La La Land returns to screens from Friday 24 May to close out our season, and co-stars two-time Oscar winner Emma Stone. We will also be having a one-off Dementia-Friendly screening of the film on Tuesday 28 May.
