20th Century Women 15
With 20th Century Women we find ourselves in 70s sun-soaked Santa Barbara in the company of Dorothea (Annette Bening) had her 15-year-old son, Jamie (Lucas Jade Zumann). Concerned that in his teenage years Jamie might need something more than just his mother, Dorothea has enlisted the help of her lodger, Abbie (Greta Gerwig) and young neighbour, Julie (Elle Fanning) to help Jamie by taking him along with them to share in their experiences. The women treat Jamie to a smorgasbord of all the great things the 70s has on offer, like punk rock and hardcore feminist literature.
An assured follow-up to Beginners that showcases Mills’ impeccable skill as a writer to deliver thoughtful and poetic observations.
