Alien 3 15
Followed by lecture from Professor Stephen Mulhall
Theme: Film as Philosophy
Alien 3 shows how even mainstream Hollywood movies can be regarded as not merely illustrative of philosophical issues and problems, but as reflectively engaging with them in just the way philosophers do – thus becoming ‘film as philosophy’.
Professor Mulhall is Fellow and Tutor in Philosophy at New College, Oxford. His research interests include Wittgenstein, Heidegger, Nietzsche and Sartre, the philosophy of religion, and the relation between philosophy and the arts. He is the author of 'On Film' (Routledge, 2nd edn 2008), and his most recent book is ‘The Self and Its Shadows’ (OUP, 2013).
