Charlie's Country 15
Charlie (David Gulpilil), an older Aboriginal man, has become disenchanted with his life on an Arnhem Land outstation (traditional tribal land). He decides to return to the bush and try to live like his ancestors and this ideological move sets off a chain of events that was impossible for him to foresee. The film explores problematic national issues around the plight of the Aborigine and their disenfranchisement in contemporary Australia. After his debut in Walkabout David Gulpilil is the most recognisable Aboriginal actor and for his performance in Charlie’s Country he won the best actor award at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.
