Chaplin Festival: City Lights - with live score U
"Nobody in the world but Charlie Chaplin could have done it."
Critics went crazy for Chaplin’s masterpiece ‘City Lights’ as the birth of cinematic sound and the talkies threw the film industry into turmoil. Chaplin insisted his iconic ‘Tramp’ character would not be heard talking on screen. Instead he composed his own superb score for the film and the end product is one of Chaplin’s most cherished cinematic accomplishments.
Combining some of Chaplin’s hilarious comedic scenes with heart-warming emotion, one of silent comedy’s crown jewels ‘City Lights’ is a romantic tale of the adorable tramp falling in love with a young blind flowergirl who mistakes him for a millionaire. Every action on screen of this timeless classic is brought to life with the original score performed live by the Sheffield Rep Orchestra.
