Difret 12A
Based on a true story and executively produced by Angelina Jolie, Difret follows the trial of 14 year old Hirut, who after being abducted for marriage shot her attacker to escape from an abusive future. Ethiopian-born writer/director Zeresenay Berhane Mehari portrays, with panoramic beauty, the complexity of a country’s transformation toward equal rights, featuring the courageous generation that dares to own it. Winner of Audience Awards at the Sundance, Berlin, Montreal, and Amsterdam film festivals.
