El Sur PG
‘95 minutes of emotions so intense that you’re left breathless. I cry every time I watch it.’ - Pedro Almodóvar
This beautifully warm 1950s period piece portrays familial mysteries against the backdrop of an isolated house in northern Spain. The young girl Estrella attempts to understand her father, a doctor who never talks about his old life down in the south.
The film was originally meant to be a three hour epic, with the second half set in the father’s southern home. But upon seeing this northern half, the producer thought it was perfect as is - and it seems like a lot of people agree with him.
