Digital Romance: Her 15
Looking at the development of digital romance and virtual love with a screening of Spike Jonze’s Her, with an introduction from Luca Barlassina. Theodore purchases the first artificially intelligent operating system. The system has a female voice and name, ‘Samantha’. Theodore and Samantha seem quickly to fall in love. But could they really have feelings for each other? Can a disembodied computer program have real emotions? And what exactly is Theodore in love with? After all, isn’t Samantha “just a voice in a computer?”
