More than a century after the ambiguous assumed suicide of Vincent Van Gogh,Oscar-winning British animator Hugh Welchman and his wife, Polish artist and director Dorota Kobiela delve into the story of what really happened. What better way to explore the life of the tortured artist than through his own paintings?
In Loving Vincent, Welchman and Kobiela bring together 65,000 oil painted frames – produced by 115 professional artists. The first film ever created entirely from oil paintings, this stunning cinematic achievement goes beyond the idea at its core, and delves into the stories behind van Gogh’s most famous paintings. Discovering the narratives and people within each artwork. Originally shot in live-action, before each frame was painted over, the film features stunning performances from Douglas Booth, Saoirse Ronan and Chris O’Dowd.
