Makibefo 18
Filmed on the southernmost tip of Madagascar, Makibefo is a striking, alternative version of Macbeth, performed by non-professional actors. From a small fishing community, the actors had never seen a film before or heard of Shakespeare. Often improvised this intense take on a man’s quest for power through bloody ambition was shaped by its South African cast.
