Old Joy 15
Two old friends in their early thirties take a last-minute road trip to Oregon’s Cascade Mountains in an attempt to revive their dying friendship. Having been close in times past, today Kurt (Will Oldham) is a thirty-something hippie, whose life is free from any real responsibility, while Mark (Daniel London) is a world-weary father-to-be with a job and a mortgage. As both men seek to re-establish the connection that once brought them together, they struggle to express themselves; their journey is as disjointed as it is awkward. After driving aimlessly, they reach Bagby Hot Springs and, at the centre of the forest, they share a transcendent, wordless moment deep in the wilderness. Reichardt’s delicate meditation on human friendship.
