In this late 80s classic Patrick Swayze plays a bouncer (or, as he insists, a cooler) with a degree in Philosophy from NYU.  Is this just a random bit of strangeness, or are there actually philosophical themes to be found?  Professor Jennifer Saul will argue that, unlikely as it seems, this film takes up several significant philosophical topics, including the nature of pain, the development of virtue, the power of speech, and gender performance.
