The Best of Doc/Fest: The Charro of Toluquilla + Skype Q&A 18
Following the success of Sheffield Doc/Fest in June 2016, Doc/Fest
and Showroom Cinema are pleased to continue their longstanding
partnership to bring some of the best of the fest, and a couple of new
documentaries, to the Showroom in Sheffield over the Autumn.
In
June 2016, Sheffield welcomed a record number of 32,700 audiences from
across the UK, as well as filmmakers from 60 countries around the world,
to watch films, take in exhibitions, attend talks & sessions, and
events at Showroom Cinema and numerous venues across the City.
Starting
on 26 September 2016, Doc/Fest and Showroom Cinema will present one
'Best of Doc/Fest' screening a month at Showroom through until the end
of the year, each introduced by a member of the Doc/Fest team and some
of which will give audiences the chance to meet the makers behind the
film.
The Charro of Toluquilla + Skype Q&A with director Jose Villalobos and protagonist Jaime Dominguez
Monday 26 September // 18:00
The first of the Best of Doc/Fest series, The Charro of Toluquilla comes from Mexico. Irreverent and flirtatious, Jaime Dominguez enjoys life on his horse and on the stage as the popular mariachi dancer “Charro de Toluquilla”. But Jaime
has some very grown up problems - not least that he is HIV positive,
and his devout girlfriend wants to get married to legitimise their
daughter. A portrait of Mexico through a complex protagonist, Jose
Villalobos’ film shimmers with humanity.
The screening will be followed by a Skype Q&A with the film’s director Jose Villalobos, and protagonist Jaime Dominguez.
