Director Yang Pingdao blends autobiography, family chronicle and social history as he retells the end of his grandmother's life and the birth of his daughter. We see also the everyday shifts and tensions of family relations, and the pressures on these both of personal and national factors. River of Life was the prize winner of the 2014 Beijing Independent Film Festival.

been described as one of China’s most exciting emerging filmmakers. Born in
Guangdong, south China, in 1980, he graduated in film directing from the
National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts.
