The Illusionist

L'illusionniste

The Illusionist

This beautiful French hand-drawn animation, based on a screenplay by Jacques Tati, is a simple story about an old vaudevillian and a young girl in the late 1950s. After being fired from a leading Paris theatre, he’s forced to travel to find paid work. The two end up in Edinburgh.

This is magical and timeless non-CGI animation from the director of Belleville Rendez-Vous.

"...with this homespun treasure, Chomet proves there is still a place for old-school sleight of hand; for something rare and exotic, majestic and melancholy."
The Guardian

"Every frame looks like a delicate water-colour - the city’s buildings, alleyways, hills, spectacular views - even its 1950s buses - are realised in gorgeous detail."
The Telegraph
