Upside Down: The Story of Creation Records, with Q&A
The definitive story of the label that launched Primal Scream, Jesus and Mary Chain, Ride and My Bloody Valentine and Oasis. No one did excess like Creation and few do swagger like Alan McGee; in the film he admits "I was absolutely delusional. I actually thought I was up there with Beethoven and Shakespeare, creating metaphysical history by running Creation." However the excess finally took its toll and the film shows how the label veered from one financial precipice to another. With a Sony deal in hand the corporate culture set in and the indie spirit dropped out, spelling the end of Creation's glory days. The offices moved from Hackney to Primrose Hill and for some Oasis at Knebworth proved a gig too far.
There will be a Q&A following the screening.
