Alambrista!
Struggling to support his family after the birth of his first child, Roberto (Domingo Ambriz) is driven to illegally cross the border from Mexico to the United States in search of work. The journey is not easy, and once across, Roberto’s life is made even more difficult by abusive employers and gruelling working conditions; he soon finds out that working hard is not enough for him to thrive in a country that never really allows him a place. Combining a gripping road movie with an intimate character study, Alambrista! is a film that highlights the everyday reality of the invisible lives of those abused and exploited through undocumented labour.
Part of Crossings: Stories of Migration, an Institute of Contemporary Arts-led UK-wide film and events programme supported by the BFI using National Lottery funding and in partnership with the Goethe-Institut.
