An Elephant Sitting Still
Under the gloomy sky of a small town in northern China, three people find their lives inextricably bound together. While protecting his friend from a dangerous school bully, 16-year-old Bu pushes the tormentor down a staircase. He escapes the scene and later learns that the bully is hospitalised and gravely injured. His neighbour, the 60-year-old Jin, is estranged from his family and, with nothing to lose, decides to leave town with Bu. The pair are then joined by Bu’s classmate, Ling, and they flee far away from town to the city of Manzhouli - a longed-for escape from their suffering - where it is said there is an elephant that simply sits and ignores the world.
