Celebrating the empowerment of women in the film industry. Read more >
This stunning debut feature from Mati Diop (35 Shots of Rum) won Best Debut at London Film Festival, and the Grand Prix in Cannes. This is a one-off opportunity to see it on the big screen, complimented by a short recorded interview with Diop herself.
Ada, 17, is deeply in love with Souleiman, a construction worker on the new local monstrosity, the Muejiza Tower. When Soulimen and the other workers decide to abandon Senegal in search of a better life in Spain, they disappear at sea.
Ada, meanwhile, is promised to another - the materialistic owner of the Muejiza Tower. But a mysterious fire breaks out on her wedding night, the first in a series of mysterious happenings that surround the women left behind by their lost lovers.
A truly unique, visually sumptuous romance that has surprises round every corner, Atlantics is beyond deserving of the praise it's received from critics. Confidently delving into themes of immigration and workers rights, but never losing sight the hope, love and solidarity at it's core.
