Belfast (Early Doors) 12A
Belfast follows the precocious Buddy (newcomer Jude Hill in a remarkable introductory role), whose family is navigating the tumultuous political and religious strife in 1960s Northern Ireland. His parents, played by Jamie Dornan and Caitriona Balfe, face difficult choices over their family’s future as tensions boil over in their town.
Shot in black and white and with a soundtrack by Van Morrison, Belfast is a moving coming-of-age film and a portrait of an increasingly fractured city. A carefully constructed tale which encapsulates the director’s own memories of the time, this is a deeply personal and powerful film.
