We’re celebrating 50 years since the release of Luis Buñuel’s ‘masterpiece of erotica’ with a new restoration. Beautiful, bored housewife, Séverine – played by the perfectly cast Catherine Deneuve – starts working at a high-class brothel where she quickly becomes a highly sought-after professional. The requests of Séverine’s clients are driven by a wealth of fantasies, ranging from masochistic roleplay to the desire to be popular, and Buñuel blurs the distinction between reality and fantasy with his trademark surrealism.
