Cannes Day 2

Posted 20 May 2014

Started out nice and early this morning. Mike Leigh's 'Mr Turner' was first up and I was delighted to see a familiar face in the background as many of the extras were Sheffield Hallam staff and students, good show Sheffield! The film should please fans of Leigh but it wasn't really my cuppa and at 2.5 hours it is a bit too long in my opinion.

Next up, after successfully purchasing breakfast in French was 'Timbuktu' which is a great portrait of place and time but scarily threatening and with uncomfortable ridiculous/comic elements that expose the hypocrisy and utter madness of the situation.

Dash over to the Olympia cinema now for a few back-to-backs starting with Ira Sach's latest which I was unable to get tickets for in Berlin 'Love is Strange'.
