Cannes Day 5
Posted 19 May 2014
Today was a day of surprises with, by turns, great successes and epic disappointments. Starting with the great; 'White God' is a Hungarian film about what happens when dogs decide to take revenge on their abusers. An intriguing mix of genres and with incredible dog revenge scenes this film is one of my favourites so far. Not since Red Dog have I seen such incredible dog acting on screen.
Today's disappointment came in the form of 'The Rover' which was one of my hotly anticipated titles, from the director of the brilliant 'Animal Kingdom'. This film left me baffled; the lack of story, sparse dialogue, over acting and general lack of momentum all added up to a very frustrating watch. However on the up side as we were leaving I saw Pedro Almodovar on the stairs and was very, very star struck, I wonder what he thought of it.
Also up today was the annual Europa Cinemas Network meeting where we were all pleased to hear the announcement that Watershed Bristol's Maddy Probst has been elected as Vice President. I think I speak for all of my UK colleagues when I say that we are ever so proud and sure that this position lies in extremely capable hands.
Finally.... today I saw Paris Hilton, which despite not being a fan she sure can pose and my secret paparazzi came out to play and we all found ourselves shouting 'Paris' at her while snapping away.
