Cannes Day 7

Posted 22 May 2014

I forgot this morning that when it is a French film in competition you have to be extra extra early so we had a bit of a mad dash to the Lumiere for Dardenne brothers' 'Two Days, One Night' with the wonderful Marion Cotillard. A rather simple set-up but well told and with good performances, this should prove fairly popular.

Had a meeting scheduled with Eye-on-Films so we went to the the MEDIA beach area and had coffee and caught up, I have stacks of DVDs to work my way through now to see what might interest the people of Sheffield and I'm also keen to explore the opportunities for FAN wide work with this programme. Also bumped into an old friend from CICAE course in San-Servolo, Marketa, and found out all about exciting projects she is working on in Eastern Europe. Popped my head into the UK pavilion and saw Sensoria's Jo Wingate which was a lovely surprise.

I decided today I was going to make an extra effort and queue for the Cronenberg film 'Map to the Stars' in the Salle de 60eme. Nearly two hours later I finally got in and I can safely say I loved it, a fantastic cast bring this mad-cap Hollywood story to life. There was a glitch with the film half way through which meant I lost my connection to the story briefly but it didn't take long until I was back in tinsel town and enjoying their crazy world.

Tonight's screening was much less successful, I queued for over two hours to see Ryan Gosling's directorial debut and we didn't even get anywhere near the front, bah humbug! Luckily though we were next to lovely colleagues from Soda Pictures and it was great to catch up with them all.
