12-year-old Miguel shines shoes by day and worships at the shrine of his musical idol, Ernesto de la Cruz, by night. For generations, his family has banned music, but young Miguel longs to follow in the footsteps of his hero and pursue his passion. He is soon sent on an extraordinary journey to the Land of the Dead, where he learns lessons about his family history and the importance of memory.
