Be careful what you wish for.

Coraline Jones (voiced by Dakota Fanning) has just moved house; she misses her friends and her parents are too busy working to pay much attention to her.

One night she finds a secret door leading to a parallel world which looks a lot like home, except her ‘Other’ Mother and ‘Other Father’ are much kinder and more attentive than her real parents. In fact they are the perfect parents. Yet, there’s a disturbing clue that things might not be truly perfect in ‘Other’ land - everyone has buttons where their eyes should be. Soon the ‘Other’ parents want Coraline to join their button world forever and, as her adventure turns dangerous, she has to summon all her resources and bravery to escape and get back to her real home. With some scary moments and clearly influenced by the classic Grimm folk tales (the ‘Other’ mother is firmly in the tradition of evil stepmothers) this film is an original delight. ‘Beautiful, believable and fantastical, this is one of the best children’s films in years and Selick’s finest - better even than The Nightmare Before Christmas.’ Empire
