Sheffield DocFest is an international film and arts festival and marketplace with a mission to spark imaginations and empower our capacity for change by celebrating, championing and debating documentary film and art as a collective form of engagement.

DocFest looks to question the boundaries of documentary film through a programme that challenges trends, brings diversity and enriches debate. The festival invites audiences to engage with experiences and stories from different parts of the world and to join makers in inspiring moments.

The 28th edition will be a hybrid festival taking place 4–13 June, in Sheffield, in cinemas across the UK and online on Sheffield DocFest Selects.

The festival will open at Showroom Cinema, with the European premiere of Summer of Soul (...Or When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised) by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, Friday 4 June.

The line-up includes 48 world premieres, 20 International premieres, 10 European premieres and 46 UK premieres from 57 countries with 47 languages represented. From Senegal to Latvia, Iraq to Denmark and Haiti to Scotland the 70 features and 88 shorts show the considerable breadth of the programme for the 28th edition of the festival.

Sheffield DocFest is built by a team of people who passionately believe that sharing films and art with everyone else is a way of working toward a better city, and a better world. It comes from the tradition of a city that has always been there for those who wanted to be welcomed. Sheffield DocFest celebrates film and arts by honouring this spirit, and creating a collective space that is both relevant and generous to those who want to be a part of it, whether in Sheffield, online, or throughout the country.
