Public ambulances are scarce in Mexico City. The employment crisis offers few alternatives, so the Ochoa family spend most nights in their private ambulance listening for emergency signals, up against corrupt police and competing rescue squads. Under the lurid city lights, they race other vehicles to the scene, with the aim of delivering casualties to private hospitals – regardless of proximity.
