Sheffield DocFest is the UK’s leading documentary festival and one of the world’s most influential markets for documentary projects. The festival champions and presents the breadth of documentary form – film, television, immersive and art – in our vibrant city each June. The festival offers a place for inspiration, debate, development, learning and challenge.

This year’s film programme totals 109 films (80 features and 29 shorts), including 48 World Premieres, 14 International Premieres, 17 European Premieres and 29 UK Premieres, from 56 countries of production with 41 languages represented.

Titles screen in different sections - International Competition and International First Feature Competition, the Short Film Programme, as well as six strands - Rhythms, Debates, People & Community, Memories, Rebellions and Journeys.

History leaves scars. In these four inspiring works, bodies act as archives: holding memories, keeping traditions and harbouring the seeds of change. Refusing erasure, the protagonists of these films use dance, language, song and poetry to keep their cultures alive. Q&A with directors Andrea Suwito, Romain Beck, Lamees AlMakkawy, Jamal Sterrett & Otis Mensah.
