Adapted from Ian Fleming’s 1958 novel, the film, directed by Terence Young is renowned for defining the tropes of 007 – the cars, the gadgets and Martinis. The MI6 mission follows 007 (Sean Connery) called to investigate the mysterious murder of a colleague. Tension rises with the call to save the US space programme from destruction by the hands of an eccentric villain, Dr. No. 007 must venture to Jamaica and confront Dr.No at his headquarters. Dr. No is full of action that includes dodging tarantulas, “fire breathing dragons” and a trio of assassins. Ranked as number 41 on the BFI top 100 British films Dr.No is the defining 1st film of the classic Bond film series.
