This bold documentary follows some of the most influential lesbian filmmakers of the past 50 years, pulling back the curtain to reveal a wealth of talent and history shared by these powerful women.

When director Caroline Berler couldn’t find any films celebrating the icons of lesbian cinema she decided to take matters into her own hands and document a history of queer cinema from the women who made it happen. Featuring filmmakers Barbara Hammer, Su Friedrich, Rose Troche, Cheryl Dunye, Yoruba Richen, Desiree Akhavan, Vicky Du, and film critics B. Ruby Rich and Jenni Olson, the film tells their stories with heart and hilarity, allowing them to share how they’ve expressed their queer identity through cinema.

About the short film The Passion and the Potluck

Before the documentary, we'll be screening The Potluck & The Passion, one of the first short films of Cheryl Dunye (The Watermelon Woman). In this short, a black lesbian couple have a potluck dinner party on their one year anniversary. Each partner invites several of her own friends, hoping variety will make for a stimulating evening. An experimental narrative in which food, drink and unrequited desire collide, exposing the delicate terrain of human, social and sexual relations.

Ms Anna Kissed will be setting the vibe as our resident DJ for the night, spinning a few tunes in the bar before & after the film. (https://www.facebook.com/MsAnnaKissed/)
