Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 15
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
From acclaimed writer Charlie Kaufman and visionary director Michel Gondry comes Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Imperfect lovers Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine (Kate Winslet) opt to have their memories of each other erased after their breakup, but while hoping to start their lives afresh without the agony of love the shared memories of their romance become unexpectedly and hopelessly entangled.
We are also screening our very own BFI Film Academy made film titled From Sam ahead of the film. This was made as part of the BFI Film Academy 2022-2023 course at the Showroom Cinema.
Post Screening Discussion with Yuhan Fu
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind poses many intriguing and important philosophical questions touching on themes of ethics, emotion, self-identity, and memory. In this talk, we will focus on how the film explores the relationship between memory, love and personal identity within the story and through its innovative visual style. The unique portrayal of how memories in particular will be central to our discussion of the role our memories play in how we understand ourselves and those around us.
