At 90 years old, after a ten-year hiatus, Varda returned to her cameras and created this Oscar nominated documentary, a film that is as expressive and free as her very first film.
JR and Varda, kindred spirits who share a lifelong passion for images and how they are created, embark on a road trip like no other. In JR’s truck – a giant photo-booth on wheels – the pair set about capturing the faces of rural France and flyposting enormous exhibitions on towering walls and landscapes.
What follows is a heart-warming insight into quiet communities and delightfully human portraits of faces in their places.
