Discovery Film Festival is Scotland’s International Film Festival For Young Audiences. Based at and managed by Dundee Contemporary Arts, the festival brings together the very best films from around the world for audiences aged 3+. Now in its 20th year, the festival traditionally sees over 5,000 children and young people from Dundee and the surrounding area engage with its programme of screenings, activities, workshops and exhibitions each year.

One of the most popular elements of the festival programme is our short films strand, which encompasses Shorts for Wee Ones (age 3+) and Shorts for Middle Ones (age 8+). A perfect introduction to the magic of cinema, these packages come to Showroom to entertain the children of Sheffield this September.

We know it’s not just the youngest age group that enjoys these films, but we do seek out the best examples of films from around the world that will appeal most to those at the start of their engagement with film, ages 3+. Who needs a spoken language to tell a story when they are as visual as these are?

Sheep, sunflowers, bears, magical rocks, giant turnips, a basketball-playing T-Rex and a rockpool full of marvellous undersea creatures all invite us into their worlds for a whole host of adventures!

Shorts for Wee Ones is advised for ages 3+.

Family Time screenings are relaxed for accessibility and comfort for all. Discovery Film Festival screenings will not feature subtitles, but they will feature little to no dialogue. All tickets are £5. Please find more information about Family Time here.
