Final Portrait 15
From acclaimed actor and director Stanley Tucci comes Final Portrait, a story of painter and sculptor Alberto Giacometti. The film is based on the account of art critic and biographer James Lord, when Giacometti invited him to sit for a portrait. What initially was supposed to take just a few hours turns into days…and then weeks…as the artist finds himself continuously distracted by his own outbursts and musings.
A brilliant central performance by Geoffrey Rush is complemented by a strong supporting cast including Armie Hammer (The Social Network, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.), whose charming James Lord works as the perfect foil to Rush’s bumbling Giacometti. Sylvie Testud (Fear and Tremling, La Vie en Rose) is the artist’s frustrated wife, and Clémence Poesy (127 Hours, In Bruges), his lover.
Final Portrait is a funny and engaging episode from the life of a fascinating artist, whose work is currently being exhibited in the first major retrospective at London’s Tate Modern.
