Film of the Month: Ida

Posted 26 September 2014

October's Film of the Month is Ida, and our members can get DOUBLE POINTS Here's what our Chief Exec Ian Wild has to say about the film:

"Ida is the best film released in 2014 by far. It's a modern masterpiece, an almost perfect film that draws you in to and engages you on an emotional and intellectual level.

"The story is set in 1960s Poland, where a young novice nun discovers the truth about her personal history and the dark recent history of her country.  Ida is sent from her sheltered home in a convent to meet her only living relative; her Aunt Wanda who is almost her opposite, a world weary former communist who has fallen out of favour with the authorities.  Together they set off on a journey to discover the truth about Ida’s family and what had taken place in Poland during the war.

"Ida is a road movie and a journey of discovery that forces both women to make decisions about themselves and how they will live their lives."
