François Ozon returns with a handsome black and white
drama set in Germany and France in the immediate aftermath of the First World
War. Frantz recalls
the mourning period that follows great national tragedies as seen through the
eyes of the war’s “lost generation.” A suspenseful, wriggly plot intertwines a
fiancée who lost her lover in the war with a mysterious stranger. A richly beautiful, thrilling and ultimately
stirring period piece.
