It’s the summer before Sam is due to leave her Brooklyn home to study medicine. Her father, Frank, runs a failing record store in Red Hook, and is facing the prospect of losing his shop as well as his daughter. When the two get together for their weekly jam session, they end up writing and recording a song that Frank secretly decides to put online. This leads to the possibility of something bigger than either of them could have imagined… but would affect their futures in very different ways.

With powerful performances from Nick Offerman and Kiersey Clemons, Hearts Beat Loud is a feelgood film about learning to grow up and let go (at any stage in life), that manages to be beautiful and inspiring without resorting to cliché. It’s also got a killer soundtrack that will stick with you long after you’ve watched it.
