The film stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a man who has given up his own dreams to put those in his family and community first, and whose suicide attempt on Christmas Eve brings about an intervention from his guardian angel, Clarence. Clarence shows George what his selfless deeds over the years have meant to those in his town of Bedford Falls.
A loose retelling of Dickens' A Christmas Carol and short story The Greatest Gift, It's a Wonderful Life was commercial flop at the time of its release, becoming a family-favourite in the decades since. Now regarded as one of the greatest American films ever made, It's a Wonderful Life is a feel-good festive classic, not to be missed.
