This season, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the original Godzilla (1954), is a celebration of all thing’s kaiju, of giant monsters, rubber suits, of nuclear horrors, mystical fantasy, and royal rumble free-for-alls.

The Godzilla franchise is recognised as the longest continuously running film franchise in history, with 33 Japanese films to its name, and 5 US productions. The character has become synonymous with his home country, with monster flicks, and to an extent the wider world of cinema.

Showroom Cinema is excited to screen four films as part of our KaiJuly season. This selection explores a wide breadth of the kaiju canon, from its beginnings as an allegory for nuclear devastation (Godzilla, 1954), through the fantastical and mythological elements explored in Mothra (1961), the unserious wrestling-infused rumbles of Destroy All Monsters (1968), and finally the contemporaneous critique of bureaucracy and government in Shin Godzilla (2016).

We are fortunate to welcome Dr Diane Rodgers and film historian and writer Dr Craig Ian Mann, who will be providing introductions to Godzilla and Mothra respectively, and welcome their insight into the world of cinematic monsters.

Purchase our season pass to access all of the films in our KaiJuly season for just £25.
