Young François leads a happy life, spending long days in his carpentry shop and peaceful evenings at home with his wife and children. Their relationship is simple, passionate and uncomplicated, until one day François falls helplessly in love with a postal worker. Filmed with a rich mix of beautiful colour and set against the shifting strains of Mozart, Le bonheur - meaning “happiness” - slowly tears apart what it means to be happy and in love in an increasingly self-centred world. As Varda herself wrote, her vision for this award-winning film was for it to be ‘a soft summer fruit with a worm inside’.
