The Many Saints of Newark 15
The Many Saints of Newark is Alan Taylor’s prequel to HBO’s smash-hit series The Sopranos. Co-written by series creator David Chase, the film follows a teenage Anthony Soprano in the 1960s, growing up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark’s history. Caught up in the changing times is the uncle he idolises, whose influence over his nephew will turn the impressionable teenager into the all-powerful mob boss we’ll later come to know as Tony Soprano. Of course, James Gandolfini’s performance as the head of the Soprano family is one of the most acclaimed of all time; here, his son Michael steps into his shoes as one of the great on-screen antiheroes.
