An exploration of one woman’s life, revisited in 1999, 2014 and 2025. In 1999, childhood friends Liangzi and Zhang both find themselves in love with Tao. Torn between a man she loves, and a man that can support her, Tao’s choices will ripple through generations to come. A story of love and hope, set against the backdrop of a society changing at breakneck speed. With a mesmerising central performance from Tao Zhao, Mountains May Depart is an exploration of interlocking stories, deftly told with stunning simplicity.
