Based on a true story, author Isabel Wilkerson works on writing her seminal book "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents" while coping with personal tragedy.
Adapted by groundbreaking director Ava DuVernay (Selma, 13th), the film ambitiously intertwines the intellectual ideas about race and social hierarchy which Wilkerson explores in her book with the realities of her everyday life.
Through this powerful combination of the historical and the present, DuVernay reimagines Wilkerson’s complex and expansive research into an affecting portrait of both one woman and all of humanity.
