ShAFF 2019: Young Adventurers 2 U

A hand-picked selection of the best films aimed at the younger generations. Part of Sheffield Adventure Film Festival 2019 (ShAFF 2019). 100+ of the best adventure, travel and extreme sports films over one weekend in the UK's Outdoor Capital City.

These films are pending certification and we expect them to be certified at a U rating - families are welcome.

1. Dreamride 3 - 6 minutes

   We've seen mountains and jungles and canyons run deep We've raced lava, chased sunsets, and found caves in our sleep Ahh… The good old dream... Where things are never quite as they seem...So come on old friend, here we go again We’ve got one more story before we turn in DreamRide 3 is the final chapter in a series that has taken audiences to some of the wildest environments on Earth. Combining a Dr.Suess inspired narrative, mind blowing natural landscapes, and one dreamer on a mountain bike, this film will take you on an adventure like no other.

2. Kai Jones - 5 minutes

   12 year old rips gnarly terrain at Jackson Hole.

3. Line Riders - Beethoven's 5th - 5 minutes

   I spent over 3 months synchronizing a line rider track to Beethoven's 5th drawing everything by hand. Any time a character leaves the screen they are being directed by unseen lines to the next location. This is not the full length of the piece. I spliced together parts to make it possible for me to finish the project in a practical amount of time. I don't think my sanity could handle 3 more months of this song.

4. Nocta Project 2 - 2 minutes

   The second episode of the Nocta series directed by Yucca Films is a creative and technical challenge they were not ready for.

5. Not To Be A Lady - 2 minutes

   We hope you try not to be a lady. Three athletes tread forward without dragging stigmas behind them. Featuring professional skateboarder Mariah Duran, professional ballerina Alison Stroming, and athlete and high-level personal trainer Elise Young. Made in an un-ladylike fashion in honour of International Women's Day 2018. The perception of women is changing. Our perception of ourselves is changing.

6. On Scottish Soil - 4 minutes

   Filmed in Dunkeld and Peebles Scotland, this an introduction to Female Riders Race Team, a team set-up to promote up-and-coming female riders in enduro and downhill mountain bike racing. Female Riders Race Team is a girls' cross-country (XC), downhill (DH) and enduro mountain biking (MTB) team launched in 2016 to promote, support and assist a talented group of up-and-coming female riders to race competitively in the UK and worldwide. We want to enhance the buzz around the growing female mtb racing scene and look to bridge the gap between the top elite riders and the rest of the pack. Our long-term aim is to grow the youth-side of the team to create a development platform to grow skills and enthusiasm for racing. We collaborated with Glen Thomson, who at the time was a student studying for a degree in film and had been producing edits of mountain biking events for a while. He's easy going but focused and is always able to put the riders at ease during the filming process. F-riders is a social enterprise created by female riders for female riders. Free-riders, free-stylers, female-riders: f-riders-inc are a community of riders both male and female, passionate about board and bike sports, who positively promote women and girls in these sports. We do this by reinvesting profits from the sale of high quality action sports apparel that is specifically and thoughtfully designed for females. In 2018, we grew the team to twelve riders, which included a youth team of four riders, taking the age range of our team riders from 12 to 40 years old.

7. Viacruxis - 11 minutes

   Marcel and Andrezj are a legendary pair of mountaineers. They have been the first ones to conquer the highest and hardest peaks. Despite their different temperaments, they make a great team. Marcel has taken the lead and popularity, whereas Andrezj always plays a secondary role. Now they face the biggest challenge: reaching the virgin summit of the highest mountain. In order to achieve this, they will have to overcome formidable obstacles, suffer hardships and stand each other for a long time. But Andrezj is no longer willing to continue in Marcel’s shadow.

8. Virtual Globe - 2 minutes

   Watch the Brazilian powerhouse’s wild skatepark engineering project brought to life by Samsung TV!

   Pedro powers through the twists and turns of his custom course, with his signature mix of hitting big transition and skating all-out.

9. Wakeskating A Volcanic Valley - 5 minutes

   Wadi Al-Hidan is one of the most important tourist attractions in the Jordanian province of Madaba, formed by centuries of melting volcanic rocks that have finally witnessed a unique event represented by breaking its unique natural meandering ... on a water skateboard!

10. Lisbon Parkour POV - 4 minutes

    In this rooftop parkour POV, Luis Alkmim tours his hometown of Lisbon, Portugal, showing his view of the city as he runs and jumps its streets and roofs.
