"You Strike A Woman, You Strike A Rock!"

In 2012, miners of a Platinum mine in Marikana, South Africa were murdered when the police opened fire during a friendly strike for a living wage and better conditions. They shot down 112 miners, killing 34. Years later, justice for the 'Marikana Massacre' has not been served and living conditions for the local community have worsened.

Strike A Rock is the journey of a group of extraordinary, determined women: Sikhala Sonke (We Are Crying Together). Lead by Primrose Sonti, the group of wives and mothers work tirelessly to bring the police, government officials and mine owners to justice. They unite their community: a portrait of the strength and resilience in Black women, and an incredible journey from the shacks of Nkaneng to South African Parliament

Primrose and Thumeka will be in the UK to share the story of their struggle to hold British mining company, Lonmin, to account for their human and labour rights abuses.

After the film, we are delighted to be joined in Q&A with filmmaker Aliki Saragas, Primrose Sonti and Thumeka Magwangqana
