Our next collaboration with Birds Eye View's Reclaim the Frame campaign, focuses on this eye-opening thriller and will be followed by an open discussion on the films themes.

Emergency doctor Rike attempts to fulfil her lifelong dream of sailing alone from Gibraltar to Ascension Island in the Atlantic. But her trip drastically changes course when she encounters a damaged boat overloaded with desperate refugees. Stricken by their plight, she tries her best to help them. But as time goes by and the situation worsens she is forced to make a life or death decision.

Premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, Styx is a work of unrelenting intensity and technical brilliance. Aptly named after the mythological river that separates the living from the dead, Styx is an astute modern-day parable of Western indifference in the face of marginalized suffering.

Join us for a post screening discussion hosted by Birds’ Eye View’s director, Mia Bays and featuring Tchiyiwe T Chihana of (Why Refugee Women, DEWA Project)
