Suntan 18
Kotis is a lonely, paunchy, middle-aged doctor practicing on a hedonistic Greek island. As the decadent summer rolls in so do the young, pleasure-seeking tourists - amongst them is Anna, who’s natural magnetism pulls Kotis into a spiralling vortex of desire, parties and reinvigorated youth. Suntan is starkly confrontational in its positioning of young, golden skin against the inevitable decay of an aging body, it’s expertly crafted visuals both captivating and uneasy in equal measure.
The second film from Argyris Papadimitropolous premiered at Rotterdam international film festival - a heady-mix of drama and comedy and a surprising take on a dissatisfied man’s coming-of-middle-age.
