A poet recalls his memories of the
three women he has loved; a mechanical performing doll, a Venetian courtesan,
and the consumptive daughter of a celebrated composer. Outstanding British
filmmaking duo, Powell and Pressburger have adapted this opera into a poetic
film of flashbacks and loves lost.
