YSFF: The Late Mathias Pascal
Mathias (Ivan Mosjoukine), an eccentric dreamer, is trapped in a loveless marriage and a dead-end job until fate brings him to Monte Carlo and an unlikely piece of luck transforms his existence forever.
The film is remarkably cast with some of the great actors of the 1920s: Ivan Mosjoukine, (as Mathias Pascal), Michel Simon, Lois Moran, Pierre Batcheff and Marcelle Pradot. With stylized sets designed by Alberto Cavalcanti and Lazare Meerson, and a stunning tinted and toned print restored by the Cinématheque Française, The Late Mathias Pascal is a feast of sensations.
This rare screening will be accompanied live by a trio of musicians: Jonny Best (piano), James Wood (percussion) & Trevor Bartlett (vibraphone). The screening will be introduced by Elisabetta Girelli from University of St Andrews.
